Separate Bins at Recycling Centers

Single Stream recycling, also called "Fully Commingled" or "Single Sort", is a process where all recyclable items are collected together in a single bin instead of being separated into different bins at your home. That single bin is collected and emptied into one truck along with other single stream bins in your neighborhood.. These commingled items are sorted and separated by type and eventually make their way to companies who can use these commodities to make new items.

Borden Waste-Away Service, Inc. provides residential single stream recycling. Single stream recycling requires less space to store your recyclables (only one bin is needed) and you don’t have to do any sorting. Plus, fees for this kind of recycling are typically lower because all of your recyclables are picked up at once, requiring less fuel and fewer visits from our trucks.

Recycling drop-off centers provided by Borden are also single stream recycling, but have a couple specific differences. Where there used to be more types of containers and a little more sorting involved, these containers are now labeled as "Cardboard" containers and "ALL Other Recyclables" containers. This keeps your cardboard dry and avoids contamination so that it’s more likely to be successfully recycled and turned into something new. Businesses can bundle their cardboard from shipments and place them into the cardboard recycling containers, which frees up space for your recyclables in the “ALL Other Recyclables” containers.
