Can I Recycle Mirrors?

Mirrors have been around in some form or another for thousands of years.  They evolved from people seeing their reflections in ponds and lakes to using polished stone and metal pieces to a process of applying a thin layer of metallic silver to one side of a pane of clear glass. This technique was soon adapted and improved upon, allowing for the mass production of mirrors.

Currently, there are very few households, if any, that don’t have at least one mirror.  But how should they be disposed of when they break or we no longer want or need them?

Because these more modern-day mirrors are not made from a single type of material, Borden Waste-Away and most recycling centers do not consider them a recyclable item.  Between the chemically treated glass and the adherence of a metallic substance, mirrors are still considered a trash item.
